Re: Uncensored music on 94.5 WXKR
For decades, WMMS played Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain at 1:30am on Sunday morning. Then WNCX picked up on that tradition in the late 1980s, playing it at 11:50pm every Saturday night, which continues to this day. So, they actually play Maggot Brain every day at the exact same time? That's just weird!

Wow... I've never personally dealt with Henderson, but in the realm of radio, I'd say that's a close race!

Re: License revocations
Having helped McKluskey out at WKNX back in the day, he knew one mode and ONLY one mode: fly by the pants. Thankfully, I didn't learn his traits of bad engineering (I was 17 and had way more sense than he did!). I have seen with my own eyes pirate stations who operate far more "legal" than Jim did t...

Re: National Radio Day, August 20. Who Knew?
I put together an old-school type music radio program and had someone broadcast it on shortwave. I'm still getting reports and sending QSLs out. Covered half the US and Canada and even got reception reports from France, Netherlands and Norway! My contribution to the craft.

Re: Why do they change the songs?!!
This is why I collect records! There is so much rerecorded crap on all these services. What amazes me, and it's been happening for decades, is when radio stations have these rerecordings in their libraries. Two off hand are Reflections "Just Like Romeo and Juliet" and Neil Sedaka's "The Immigrant" ....

Re: LED Lighting
I've found some LED bulbs are as noisy, if not noisier than CFL's. But I recently bought some cheapies at Dollar General 2 for a buck, and these are warmer and also RFI clean.

Re: WPON testing again ?
The Fenton site's main lobe was kidney-bean shaped to the east. I haven't been in that building since probably 1991 or so. Can't say what shape any of it is in now, but judging by the ownership, it's probably tanked.

Re: SHortwave pirate stations
Oh, yes! 7415 was great in the 80's and 90's. Now, WBCQ is using it, thus most US stations run in the 43 or 48 meter bands now. This was in the old "Blue Ridge Summit" mail-drop days.

1690 WMLB
Is this station in central GA still operating or has it gone dark? it used to put up a decent fight with WPTX (MD) and WVON (IL) early at night, but WPTX has been dominant on 1690kHz for a while as of late. I could usually hear WMLB under the CA station just before sunrise local time, but now just W...

Re: SHortwave pirate stations
Here are a couple eQSL's I got from some recent testing broadcasts I picked up... Radio Ga-Ga testing at 3 watts in AM with USB.... I picked it up from the midwest to near Flint, MI on a DX440 hooked to a 50' end-fed random wire. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZRjB5hrwWtU/XVd-azVooMI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/zoR0Nao...

There has been a stationary front over us the past couple days. That usually brings the tropo into play.

Re: SHortwave pirate stations
Yes, Solarmax... There is an online radio right near their AM site which I'll listen to now and then, and I heard him on air a couple days. He sounds great and there is no mistaking his voice!
