Re: Green Bay OTA TV reception from manistee

OK, here's a possible solution, with the right low loss combiners. A 16 Bay UHF Bowtie with reflecting screen. This is within the realm of possibility if you are somewhat good working with antennas. Theoretically, without the losses of combining the antennas, a 16 Bay antenna would have 9 dB more ga...

Re: WCXI at reduced power?

Over the weekend, I measured the WCXI 1160 Field Intensity at a location about 30 miles East in the Pattern Maximum. The result was 1.5 mV/m, corresponding to an actual conductivity of about 2 mS/m over the path, as opposed to the M-3 Map value of 8 mS/m. I measured WCXI 1160 again a few minutes ago...

Re: Green Bay OTA TV reception from manistee

Gain Curve in dBd. Watch out for antennas that specify dBi (isotropic). Subtract 2.15 from dBi to get dBd for comparison. Isotropic is based on a point source antenna which radiates and receives equally in all spherical directions. An isotropic antenna cannot physically be built. It has a "gain" of ...

Re: Green Bay OTA TV reception from manistee

Everyone should make four CM-4251s to stack. I did see something like a 32 bay stacked Yagi in Okemos to try to pick up the DTVs from Detroit in Okemos North of Meridian Mall for an apartment complex MATV system. That system might work. According to some, you could add two VHF High Folded Dipoles at...

Re: Green Bay OTA TV reception from manistee

They could put the stations back in analog, and WBAY-TV and WFRV-TV back on 2 and 5 VHF Low, and WLUK back to 316 kW on 11, which worked in the old days. Otherwise, you could try making a Channel Master 4251 from scratch with plans and trying that since they don't make it any more. http://www.rocket...

Re: Ratings!

WJFM/WBCT not only went from 500 kW to 320 kW ERP over the years, but they may have mounted the antenna in such a way to maximize Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, and probably gave up on Lansing, where people went to Frandor, not the North Kent Mall. It's amazing that WBCT doesn't get a 70 dBu that far b...

Re: Magic 104.9 is unlistenable

If they were a Class A with a decent signal into Grand Rapids, and with a real Urban AC format like they are shown, they would do much better. The late Vern Merritt had the right idea for the Flint market's first full market Urban FM with WDZZ-don't drive away your non African American potential aud...

Re: Dead Air today

k8jd, I just found and responded to your PM from almost two months ago. Sorry about that. I am familiar with W-O-P-A, Fourteen Ninety on the dial, BTW. I did some real life Field Strength measurements this evening, away from the house electrical noise and reradiating, which I will share in a later PM.

Re: Ratings!

I thought the ratings looked a little strange in many or all of the markets. Many have said they are scratching their heads.

Re: WCXI at reduced power?

Could also be the reduction in conductivity with the hot weather. I'm going to be doing some more measurements soon, but so far, not a single AM station in the Metro is exceeding M-3 predictions, and many are way below M-3 predictions, The noise floor is so high, that some of them can't be measured ...
