Kenny Roberts the Jumping and Singing Cowboy

For some reason, my brain flashed back to when I was about 9 years old. We kids used to watch a cartoon show with a musical host on WWTV, then on channel 13. It was hosted by a semi-successful country singer who did radio and TV across the eastern U.S. To quote a bit from Ickypedia, " He began a dai...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10

Instructional TV in the early 60s from "Michigan Classroom Television" was slightly more interesting than our teacher. For example, Mrs. Stone, the TV science teacher got to do experiments that my grade school wasn't equipped (or possibly insured) for. And as a native Spanish speaker, Senora Martha ...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10

I remember WMSB. Our elementary classes in Lansing included shows from Michigan Classroom Televison. Senora Martha Murray taught us at least two different levels of beginning Spanish in 5th and 6th grade. And I remember a woman who brought us science experiments via the airwaves as well. Heck, I eve...

Ironically, if anybody still had a portable radio, they could listen to the play by play as they watched the game in progress. Just like back in the day.

Speaking of short-spaced allocations...

For a long time now, the FCC has experimented with finding out how much manure can be stuffed into a fixed size of burlap bag without having it explode.

Unfortunately, the bag exploded years ago, but they keep filling it anyway.

Re: FCC Urged To Allow Technical Change That Would Improve FM’s Digital Coverage.

Asymmetric sideband is already a feature of HD transmitters. All it does is reduce the sideband radiation on one side of the main channel or the other. It allows HD stations to use the full -10 dB HD signal on upper or lower sideband and reduce it on the other so it doesn't interfere with a closely ...

Re: (APRIL FOOLS) WHNE adds Rewind TV, returns to UHF thru channel sharing

I found this little beauty online. Naturally it's made in China, but very affordable. I believe it's a low cost solution to the low VHF channel reception issue. https://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00oZRTptnKJrqu/Metal-Hanger-Laundry-Hanger.jpg One manufacturing error though. You have to undo the lit...

Re: Remembering General Telephone And Other Ancient Telephone Facts

Our former GTE provider in suburban Portland is now Ziply Fiber. They bought out the questionable facilities of Frontier here in Oregon and Washington. Their service was just about adequate as Frontier. When Ziply took over, they promised that we would notice no difference. And they lived up to thei...

Re: Remembering General Telephone And Other Ancient Telephone Facts

When I glanced at the heading, I thought " I have a General RADIOtelephone license" ! That is from the FCC and replaced my First class radiotelephone license, that I had to have to work in Radio broadcasting and mobile radio repair work . Things changed a few decades ago and the FCC did not want re...

Re: Erik O. Furseth has passed away

Goodbye Erik and thank you for all of the great memories when I was growing up. He made WILS the #1 station in town back in those days as PD. It was great radio for a market the size of Lansing. I remember him talking about the roads being filled with those 'Whopper Choppers' during rush hour as peo...

Or maybe run lots of great Burt Ward quips from the old Batman TV series.

"Holy drill press Batman! It looks like we've been screwed!"
