Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??

Dr. Sandi, do you remember a log cabin style commissary/general store near the Houghton Lake State Park? Where was that? I draw a blank on that. But I fondly remember a similar setup at Higgins Lake State Park, South Unit. Lots of junk for us kids like Rainbow Taffy and Pixie Stix. And a jukebox. S...

Re: Pirate radio station in Seattle?

Most of the FM pirates have given up in Seattle. There are so many LPFM and translator signals jammed in that there's no open space left on the band. There used to be a very active crew of brigands and cutthroats popping up across the band around The Sound. But now that the FCC has mined the radio h...

WHGR, the 1290 spot on your dial, Houghton Lake

I remember WHGR circa 1960. Bob Ditmer 1 was in charge. I remember a broadcast booth in the dining room at Herm & Mike's Restaurant, at the blinker at M-18 and M-55. It was something to see a little studio right there among the rest of the tables we peasants used. That's about when they added night ...

Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??

FCC website it a great place to get up to date info on what the FCC has been told is happening at a station.

In my experience, YMMV, particularly with certain smaller group operations.

Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??

Are they at the same location of the original WHGR 1290 3 tower array? Also the original location for WHGR-FM/WJGS tower. Got back to Houghton Lake a few years ago. Seems like there's a WalMart where the WHGR towers used to stand. But at the time, the studio was close by the old location. Anybody k...

Re: New Ethics Rules Local Radio MUST Establish NOW To Survive...

It's not the industry that draws me, it's the work. Creating something 'magical' under difficult conditions is what twists my knob. Somehow, I feel like I owe my allegiance to the mystical thing we call radio. But the stations involved can all line up to kiss my wrinkly butt.

Re: New Ethics Rules Local Radio MUST Establish NOW To Survive...

Based on personal experience, somebody would have to explain the concept of ethics to way too many station management types to even have this conversation.

Re: Remember When What Is Now Comcast Cable, Cost $5.00 A Month?

"the statute of limitations has probably run out on that one" Can't say when or where, but I want to believe it was TCI cable I was ripping off. Besides, when you can steal $100s of millions from investors and have a 2 year statute of limitations, how long can it be for stealing cable. Probably lik...

I miss the days when cable used those little bullet filters to remove premium channels from the free view menu. Loved replacing those things with a barrel connector in my apartment building's utility room.

Re: Blarney Stone broadcasting opens a Go Fund Me page.

There are plenty of lousy noncomms out there that SOMEBODY loves. Maybe only their mommy and daddy. Doesn't mean stations shouldn't ask for money to keep the lights on. Especially now when a lot of those local sponsors are sitting at home instead of making a living. Perfect time to ask for direct he...

Re: Blarney Stone broadcasting opens a Go Fund Me page.

As a nearly broke but determined station operator myself, I can see the wisdom of asking the neighbors for a little help right now. Let's be honest, public radio is doing pretty much the same thing running a ton of underwriting, then asking for pledges to balance the budget. To be honest, except for...
