Re: CKLW-FM/CIDR's Original Transmitter Site

I can tell you that by about 1964 or 1965, they must have been 50000 watts, because I heard it soon in Genesee County soon after getting an outdoor turnstile antenna on a tower. I doubt if I could have heard it on my setup, antenna and receiver, at the time, with 250 watts. Many Summer mornings, 500...

Re: CKLW-FM/CIDR's Original Transmitter Site

Well, there's no FCC History Card, so the technical details are sketchy. But there's this. http://www.broadcasting-history.ca/listing_and_histories/radio/cidr-fm It doesn't show TL location changes that I can find. If there were a good guess, it might be when they went from 250 watts to 50000 watts ...

Re: The Big Opening To The East

I remember hearing WRCK 107.3 Utica, NY (now EMF WKVU) back in the early 1980s in an earlier opening like this at a similar time of year. I remember mentioning it to Peter Cavanaugh, and he said that they had tried to get the call letters on WWCK-FM, but I think the Utica station got them first. Cav...

DeBlasio Destroyed New York-Now Wants The "Rich" To Bail Them Out

Communist DeBlasio policies have destroyed New York. Now he wants to tax Rich New Yorkers to rebuild. Those who return are too stupid.

Re: DX late morning (9/3/20)

I received KSLQ-TV 11 St. Louis, MO in Mecosta County back around 1980 at this time of year. Back then, there weren't that many FM signals crowding up the dial, and a lot of the FM frequencies were not even duplicated anywhere else in Michigan, even a lot of the Class A frequencies. You could hear s...

Re: DX in reverse?

I'm often surprised at how unsophisticated off air antennas for stations are. You could actually build a better antenna that would work much better in rejecting cochannel and first adjacent channel interference, which often happens this time of year. It used to be really bad when analog TV stations ...

Re: DX in reverse?

The application for WEMP uses an alternative prediction method for the Section 73.333 70 dBu over Two Rivers. If they pick audio up off air with the rest of the cluster from a location in Two Rivers, the signal is probably fairly weak, and being close to the shore, very subject to tropospheric effec...

Re: Old WJR Radio Guide

I've seen some on eBay for as much as $10.00.

Come on, they are/were a lot better than nothing, even with mistakes and omissions. You guys are addicted to the internet lists and websites. They didn't have those then. Still great if the phone or notebook won't work.

Re: WBMI West Branch Brouhaha

I've noticed that since WBMI has been off, I can get WWCK-FM up past West Branch on I-75, to Grayling and beyond, usually in the morning. Used to be like that when it was just 3 kW in the old days. And the last time they were off.
