Re: RIP 89X
Flip flopping the Formats? Maybe somebody did research on how much better they would do in the 92-108 MHz US commercial band? Going back to its roots? The Big 8 8 7? Unusual that they would debut two new formats at once. BTW, I first listened to CKWW-FM and CKLW-FM in Genesee County in the mid 1960s...

Re: Built some Hovermans
Could you build the supports out of PVC Pipe and Elbows to make it lighter? So the insulation having a dielectric constant of about 2-2.5 would change the capacitance effect vs. air?

Re: Built some Hovermans
So is the last picture another Hoverman? Looks like you took two wires out of some Romex and left the insulation on.

Art Vuolo, Sr., radio archivist Art Vuolo, Jr.'s father, was the Chief Pilot for General Motors Air Transportation Section (GMATS), based at Willow Run Airport. In his travels, he was able to listen to WJR in his plane over Central Pennsylvania in the Daytime. Once you get at a certain altitude, the...

Re: The Most Complete Single Conductivity Study Of Northwest And Northern Lower Michigan
J.P. McCarthy used to answer the question as to why WJR faded out in the Daytime past Clare. He always said it was the sand. J.P. and Meteorologist John McMurray had small yachts and participated in various races. They commented that they listened to WJR in the Daytime boating in Northern Lake Huron...

The transfer was completed in 2019, if you can remember 2019. It's all been a blur since March.

Re: Black Diamond strikes again!
Maybe they wanted too much money for WKLT. Maybe they didn't want to sell it to Black Diamond. People rarely know the whole story about anything. All we really know is what is public record. The rest is rumor and conjecture, and "would have could have should have".

Re: Black Diamond strikes again!
You'd have to put WUPS on 1490 also to do that. WMPX 1490 and it's translator on 107.7 are linked facilities.

Re: The Most Complete Single Conductivity Study Of Northwest And Northern Lower Michigan
WWJ 864 mV/m @ 1 km inverse field. WHAK 695 mV/m @ 1 km inverse field. So yes, some difference, but not enough to explain the difference. Between the time that WWJ applied for 12 kW Day until they applied for 50 kW Day, they did a lot of conductivity measurements, including WHAK, and even had the la...

Re: The Most Complete Single Conductivity Study Of Northwest And Northern Lower Michigan
As I recall, WJR was in the vicinity of 50 uV/m near the Straits when I measured it with an FI meter. Also, I think we demonstrated that the conductivity near the TL is more important than the conductivity near the far end of the path. In any event, the signals of Northern Michigan AMs has always be...
