Re: M.I.A. - Detroit Free Press Tigers beat writer, Anthony Fenech

Fenech always impressed me as snarky smart aleck. Knows baseball really well, but always kind of a jerk. None of the DSR's reporting about him has ever surprised me.

Re: Detroit annoyance list

Rhonda Walker's laugh. As she's gotten older, it's turned into a cackle, which is even worse. And it's obvious that she uses her laugh as a power move—a trick she probably learned from Carmen Harlan.

Re: Limbaugh Has Died

I'd vote for Mark Steyn or Laura Ingraham, who hasn't done a regular daily radio show for awhile. My choice is to move Mark Levin to noon. Laura gave up her radio show to focus her full attention on her TV show. I doubt if Mark Steyn would do that job full time. Rush came across the air in a strong...

Re: Watts Club Mozambique spots

Detroit Free Press, June 10, 1983: Since 1969, Watts Club Mozambique has been a Detroit entertainment showcase, especially for rhythm & blues acts. Cornelius Watts says the money demands have now turned him away from live musical entertainment. He's stripped down, so to speak, to showcasing male da...

Normally I like Mr. Positive's calls, but his repetitive, condescending "You little stinker" comment on Friday was too much.

Re: Two major stories the Detroit media seem to be ignoring

I'll throw in a third story topic that I haven't heard mentioned yet—a pandemic baby boom. I'm sure that topic will come up, whether it happens or not.

Re: Finally above freezing

I didn't mind the cold stretch so much. It made for a couple of weeks of picture perfect winter weather with the sparkling snow. Winter sports enthusiasts had the chance to safely enjoy themselves, including some pond hockey players near where I live. And it postponed the inevitable potholes that ar...

Re: Loss of Limbaugh, Retirement Of Beckman And Others, May Force Changes At WJR

Premiere Radio Network has announced that they will be airing mostly "archival" (basically, a best-of) audio for "weeks" during Rush's time slot. Even his hardcore fans will tire of that in a few days; they really need a fill-in host to discuss current topics immediately, otherwise listeners will a...

Re: Limbaugh Has Died

if it wasnt for rush, I WILL give him credit for this, WJR would've been an arabic station in 1992... Wasn't Rush on another station (WXYT?) as of 1992? Indeed. Rush's show was heard on WXYT during the Chuck Fritz era and only moved over to WJR in March of 2000 during the transfer to an all sports ...

Re: Limbaugh Has Died

So, which conservative talk show host is going to take over for him? From what I heard today, they are going to continue with the same rotation of guest hosts for a while (Mark Steyn, Todd Herman, Ken Matthews). I hope Steyn takes over—he has the same sharp wit, insight, and satirical edge that Rus...

Re: Limbaugh Has Died

I saw Limbaugh at the Masonic Auditorium in early 1990. Towards the end of the show, this guy stomps out on stage in a very dramatic manner, and then we found out that Mark Scott was going to return to WXYT. According to the Free Press of 2/24/90, Scott returned to the 9-12 slot, followed by Rush fr...

Re: Limbaugh Has Died

I checked the websites of the News and Free Press to see how they covered it. The News didn't have a comment section, but the Free Press did. Many of the comments on the Free Press blatantly violated their guidelines for commenting: "While it's OK to disagree with someone's ideas; personal attacks, ...

Re: Brandon Roux..WTF is his problem?

A few years back the wife and I were walking dogs in Heins Park and we saw Derek Kevra and he was riding on some kind of electric scooter thing. He went off to the side of a play area and was hiding behind some trees peeking out at people at the play area. Not sure what he was doing but it was cree...

Re: Jimmy Eat World

I was in my early 40's when I first heard this song on Saturday Night Live and really enjoyed it. When I later heard the recorded single version, I preferred the SNL version. Same experience with Avril Lavigne and "Complicated"—liked the SNL version better than the single. I've lived through many er...
