Re: RIP 89X

I sampled Virgin Radio, after hearing / reading about the Virgin station in Toronto. It isn't speaking to me. Not much on either band does speak to me anymore. When you reach a certain age, you can't win. If you like new music, you sound out of step with the times, like your grandmother back in the ...

Re: RIP 89X

Wrong again. More 94 was the rehashed "CKLW" and Oldies/Classic Hits. Eventually, they dropped More 94, and the jocks just called it "CK". Tom Shannon, and Dave Prince were there.
More 94 was CKMR in the early 90s. Mark Eliot had a theme show on Sunday nights called "From The Archives" that...

Re: RIP 89X

580 actually had a music director?
I sensed they did, but assumed he / she was somewhere else, like maybe Toronto. The selections for the Sixties At Six hour would now and then have pairs of related, by title or subject, songs. Also heard stuff like the Sgt. Pepper title song on the 50th an...

CKWW has the Midday Cafe (still oldies). The River's Retro Lunch is gone. Talk / news as usual on CKLW. No one is playing Christmas music.

Re: RIP 89X

Something like Absolute Radio (UK) would be great. "Through The Decades" on their late night, our early evening, is excellent.

Re: WJR "Kaleidoscope" Host Mike Whorf Dies

"Kaleidoscope" was also on CKLW in 1989, at 6 PM on Sundays. I'm positive ... one of his topics was the Johnstown Flood on its centennial anniversary that aired on the Sunday closest to May 31. His program on WQRS, in 1985 was a tribute to Thomas Edison titled "Mr. Edison's Marvelous Memory Machine."

Re: Jamie Samuelsen

Okay, I get it. Great guy . . . but, at a time when everything has been cheapened and devalued, when Attila the Hun would be eulogized as someone who only wanted to give back to his community, shouldn't the outpouring of sentiment be viewed in the context of its time? I mean . . . only one person I ...

Re: Free Press & News putting up paywall on Aug 12

Everything on the Internet should be free to view and it's up to the reader to make a voluntary contribution (payment) depending on how valuable he or she thought the content was. Either that, or the writer should be paid on a pay per click basis. This was the "logic" offered me by editors and publi...

Re: Misheard Song Lyrics

The Stone Roses "I Wanna be Adored." The title can be misheard as "I wanna be your dog" or "I wanna be a door." People wanting to be household objects . . . it always reminds me of articles in which someone is identified as "the committee chair." I think : really? He (or she) looks more like an end ...

I hadn't listened in a while. On Sat 4-25 1160 is putting a suburban-quality signal into Lakeport. From the Wixom xmtr site? The legal ID is still "WCXI Fenton."

Re: y'think this might be true? (AM DX)

More likely is frequency squatting of outfits like K-LOVE and Smile FM meant to fill up the dial and prevent someone from putting a legal LPFM on the air -- on, say, 103.9 in Utica -- and broadcasting wrongspeak, or Alex Jones such as he is. How many Smile FM stations duplicating each other does the...

Re: Coronavirus Playlist

Not a new song, but a bit of pleasant news from Quebec with a musical connexion, via The World At Six (CBC R1): The gendarmerie in QC may soon get the power to bust people for standing too close together in public. One can thus imagine Madame, after such an intervention, telling her amorous BF -- "T...

y'think this might be true? (AM DX)

A couple sources -- middle-level people inside the New York and New Jersey governors' offices -- have recommended that AM DXers in the Northeast and Midwest, and eastern Canada, not listen to radio stations whose transmitters are located in New York or New Jersey because the radio waves they send ou...
