Re: Antenna TV gone?

I think WTOL actually lost MeTV to WTVG.

Re: ATSC 3.0 In Michigan

Initially these two stations will deliver ATSC 3.0. I don't know if there are others in Michigan at this time. WKAR-TV in East Lansing WMYD-TV in Detroit I wonder if Scripps will put WMYD on XYZ's transmitter sharing the same transmitter, which they can still do with MYD still tuned as 20.1. On the...

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

Back in th mid 19702 (pre-digital), I would frequently pull in VHF low stations from Florida, Louisiana, Wyoming, and Boston My farthest was KENW, channel 3, Portales, New Mexico. In the digital era, my farthest has been Fort Wayne (once in the last 10 years); Bowling Green, Ohio (twice). Has anybo...

Re: Beautiful Music Stations in Detroit

We got our first AM/FM radio in about 1971. I found it curbside a few doors down, its owner having thrown it out. It was a Lloyd's. We took it to Metry Sound on Harper Avenue, where the repairman replaced two tubes to bring it back to life. Just months later, Metry Sound closed shop. At that time, W...

Re: 106.7 is no more

Sad to hear.

My parents would take us to Platte Lake every summer. One year it seemed like the FM dial went from two stations (WIAA and WLDR) to dozens.

I had just unpacked the boxes and started to scan the newly crowded FM band and heard "The New 106-KHQ" -Thought I was getting Spokane, WA!😄

Re: WHNE STA

Thanks for your suggestions! 8) But there's still some things I could not find the answer to. Horizontal dipole reflectors are 5% longer than the half wavelength (half wavelength in this case is 7.8 ft, with a reflector length of 8.2 ft). Would the folded dipole reflector length be 8.2 ft, or is it...

Re: Bemidji Minnesota

If I remember correctly, someone at an NRC convention several years back said that stations in Minnesota and Louisiana (the only states with land on both sides of the river) are free to choose an available call sign beginning with K or W.

Re: WWJ signal problems?

Might be the colder ground. Might be the skywave conditions. Daytime skywave has been very big lately though. A low field ratio tower can have a profound effect on the pattern, just like a reradiating nearby tower. It can fill in deep nulls and even substantially increase major lobes. In December, ...

Re: WWJ signal problems? (+ WJR audio distortion)

I don't know about anyone else noticing but, WWJ's HD signal drops in and out in areas it never did before. It's been happening at least for two months now. Perhaps the HD Xmiter is on a lower power, setting, that's just a guess because they appear to be at full power on the analog side. Could it b...

Re: Trials of restoring Heathkit DX-35

I was given an old DX-35 CW/AM transmitter by a friend. This thing has been sinking my time for the last 2 months. It had several mods done to it, including a large meter (since replaced with a square of sheet metal) and also had the wrong rectifier tube. A couple things about this beast: - The pow...

Re: CICO-32 in Windsor

None of the above. It's the spectrum repack. Once the spectrum auction was completed, the technical parameters of every TV transmitter north of the México/Guatemala border that kept their spectrum were loaded into a supercomputer. The computer assigned CICO-32 to channel 19. I've only seen CICO-32 (...

Re: WPON WCXI Updates - 2019

WCXI is on STA with 250 watts nondirectional from the Wixom area site. The LIC site is still in Fenton. Normally, they don't show the STA contours. I have heard nothing to the effect that the WCXI phasor or transmitter have been installed. The WCXI CP expires 2-15-20. Based on an 82.8 degree tower ...

Re: WPON WCXI Updates - 2019

It seems I have a persistent problem when I post to this board. After I finish typing, I hit the "SUBMIT" button, but the progress bar stops (indefinitely, if I take no further action) two-thirds of the way towards completion. I hit the "SUBMIT" bar again, and TWO duplicate posts are submitted to t...
