Re: 103.7 WCKY

98.3 is taking the Nash Icon feed 24/7, no? Whatever music issues they had would be across-the-board. (And "flagship" WSM-FM outranks WKDF and WSIX in Nashville, so it's apparently working in Music City. Go figure.) WCKY is still a Tiffin/Findlay station because the transmitter was never moved in c...

Re: Nexstar in Flap With DIRECTV and AT&T-UVerse

How did TV stations who get their licenses from the FCC get to charge cable, streaming or satellite services for carrying their signal when anyone in the stations broadcast radius can get it over the air with an antenna? Are the rebroadcast entities inserting their own commercials? The local TV sta...

Re: The atrocity known as AM HD radio

That goes back to the overall failure of whatever PR campaigns have been used for HD Radio. When iBiquity owned the whole setup and had the patent claims to the IBOC standard, they initially had Clear Channel, CBS, Citadel and a few other groups run PSAs for HD Radio as often as possible. That only...

Re: Shortwave - WBCQ new 500kW transmitter on 9330kHz

I'm disappointed in their lack of imagination, building an HF system with double sidebands and only horizontal polarization. Radio Netherlands used single sideband full carrier in the early nineties. Their audio was very clear, without the sweeping cancellation effects that occurred with plain AM. I...

Re: The atrocity known as AM HD radio

When the signal has to cut across the Northwestern part of Detroit, it affects the WFDF signal. WWJ cuts through the river bed delta areas more, next to the Detroit River. I suspect that besides the pattern and the different locations, that explains it. Because if you go straight North, the signals...

and wow, Toledo... i'm SO sorry for what you have to endure when you guys want to watch television programs. I'm talking about WMNT-CD 48. It's been BOOMING in to Windsor for the past week, and i can see it in all its pixellated, over-stretched glory. I can barely make out some of the text during c...

Re: Helping someone get WJBK OTA in SW Wyandotte

It matters what kind of indoor antenna is being used. Almost any antenna that is in the form of a flat sheet will be a UHF-only antenna. She's able to get CBET because she is very close to it. She would be able to walk to the CBET transmitter if the Detroit River were not in the way. Her antenna lac...

Since the STA is omnidirectional, I'd try it - during the day (at night, 1160 in Michigan will sound like 1400).

Re: OTA channels MIA

[...]Unfortunately, someone else (FAA?) disagreed, and they were condemned to a short tower. "Condemned" is hardly the appropriate description. At 331.3M (1090') it is by no means a "short" tower. Shorter than they wanted, but comparable to others (actually very slightly taller) in the market. WKBD...

Re: OTA channels MIA

I wonder if WJMY ever actually got built out. Aerial views from 1961 and 1967 do not show any obvious sign of a tower (of course, they may have raised a tower in 1962, only to raze the tower in 1966). WJMY would have been a peashooter. Its Grade A countour only reaching the Southwest corner of Warren.

Re: TV RF Channel Changes

The Milwaukee stations are rarely a nuisance in the GR and Kzoo areas. One has to be far away from the city or within, say, 10 miles of the lake shore for that to be a major issue. Harbor Ave. & Emmet had Lake Michigan 1500' to the West and Five Mile Hill immediately to its east - blocking 3 and 8....

Re: Why can't WHNE go to UHF 30?

In answer to those wanting a stronger and deeper WHNE signal into Canada, not gonna happen folks! WHNE gets paid based on revenue sharing from US advertisers and viewers, they get nothing from Canada, hence the focus of signal will always be Michigan and The US first and foremost. They already have...

Re: Why can't WHNE go to UHF 30?

I'm not sure WHNE gets any revenue directly from advertisers. Certainly some (not necessarily all) of their revenue comes from renting subchannels to program providers. WHNE is like a flea market. They rent booths to service providers, who are on their own to gather revenue to pay for their booths, ...
