WMNT-CD repack, with SNAFU!
Did a channel scan with one of my converter boxes today. To my surprise, saw SEVEN 36. channels. Come to find out that WMNT-CD has changed their RF channel from channel 48 to channel 36. The SNAFU is that WMNT is showing as virtual channel 36, where WUPW, also virtual channel 36, is transmitting on ...

Re: What cell phone do you have?
Two. Samsung galaxy On5. A royal PITA to use, as the weather program crashed, causing a pop-up window dozens of times a day. I deleted the Weather app, yet the pop-ups continue anyway. Even though I have very few programs, apps, or images, It's always telling me the storage is full. I bought a secon...

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit
If you can somehow find some twinlead (the flat plastic cable that nearly everyone used for TV before about 1980), you can make an antenna from it by cutting a 23" length of it, stripping the plastic and joining the conductors at each end, then making a cut at the middle of the wire at one face only...

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit
Second that. It is a UHF-only design. Of course, it could receive high-VHF if the signal were VERY strong. But any antenna designed for all channels is more likely to work for WJBK 10 miles from the TL than a UHF-only model. I've been trying to tell people "Beware of the cute little antenna", yet UH...

Re: WPAY
Did it take Rossford as COL because it wouldn't put 5mV day and NIF night over Toledo, or because (at the time) any relocation of a transmitter site required that service would be provided to a community that had no broadcast stations of its own?

Re: TV detecting vans
The "TV detector vans" are regarded as being an elaborate hoax to frighten UK TV owners into paying the annual receiver licensing fee. The Beeb, however wanted viewers to think otherwise, unveiling in 2003 the "new generation" TVDV. TV Licensing launches 10th model of van in UK Supposedly they work...

Lots of brick at and around Grand Blvd. Is your Warren home frame (which helps immensely)?

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit
What face of the building is his apartment on? West Vernor and W Grand Blvd (conozco bien) is urban, but not that dense. If he's on the south face, the longer waves (WJBK is actually VHF 7) and lower ERP (27kW) could be a problem. However, multipath is not as severe at VHF. Try an amplified indoor a...

Re: A mildly surprising HDTV catch...
CBET is actually on real (RF) Channel 9, so a UHF antenna would only catch them where they would be so strong that they could overcome both the capture area and the impedance mismatch -about ten miles on CBET's power.
A VHF-high capable antenna on a chimney or in the attic could do it.

Re: ? For Audiophile On W45D Antenna Atop Ne Tubes
Audio, does it look like those turnstiles are 1/4 wavelength apart at 44.5 MHz? Not much gain that way. But the wavelength is around 20 feet, and it's on top of that ball of Neon, making it rather inaccessible. I never remember seeing the bare neon tubes. Is there a plastic dome over it now? The ne...

Re: WPON Update - 2019
It's sad that there are so many great radio people who would love to have a go at owning and operating a radio station, but just cannot pull enough strings to do so, yet owners like Birach and Henderson treat valid radio licenses like old toys. Total contempt for the FCC. It sickens me. I don't kno...

Re: The Good Old Days of Full-Powered Analog TV
Wow, amazing analog coverage areas, and if they digital stations today had this type of power, you could use rabbit ears in your car. You could see in 1995 the beginning of the end of broadcasters as FOX buying-up the nice VHF stations in the top 10 markets, and in 1996 the unlimited sloth of radio...

Re: AM Radio 2020
<snip> For those with 8 in their screen names, what do you think of NBFM for SW BC service? I know, capture ratio would be problematic if there were cochannel stations, and the narrow band is at odds with high fidelity sound. BTW, does N8FM read this board? I know that WB8DEL and W280EL do. ...
