As for the actual "press", Canada does have Freedom of the Press. The only thing they censor are court cases.

Re: CW 50 to ditch The CW, return to independence
Is there any chance that 20 would want to pick up The CW affiliation? Zero. No way a Scripps station is going to link up with Nexstar. 20 has Antenna TV on a subchannel, and that's owned by Nexstar Scripps owns 16 stations that are affiliated with The CW, either as a primary or a subchannel: https:...

Re: Sinclair wants you to buy new TVs
WFUM-TV chose to participate and accepted the bid it received. Some portion of the proceeds went to the government; most of the proceeds went to WFUM-TV. Rather, Central Michigan University -- the last few years of its life, it was WCMZ-TV. After it sold its bandwidth, they walked the license back ...

Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations
WUPW is under WTOL's control for news, which would now mean that WTOL would produce 3 out of Toledo's 4 news operations. I wonder if the FCC would allow that? As Sinclair has taken WNWO out of the local news picture, there's already only two organizations with news, WTVG (ABC) and WTOL (CBS / Fox)....

Re: CRTC Considers Banning Fox News in Canada
If Fox News goes away, their viewers won't suddenly start watching CBC They'll get their conspirscy theories somewhere else. They'll always get them online through places like YouTube, or any other services available only through streaming or the internet. Remember when OAN was ditched last year by...

Re: Party 103.3 Testimonials on their website.
Considering the time that has passed since those artists were in their prime, it would be akin to having testimonials in 2000 that read: "Such a groovy station!" -Peter Noone, Herman's Hermits "Like, far out format you guys have there!" -Mickey Dolenz, the Monkees "I would totally listen more if I ...

Re: WNWO to eliminate newscasts
I vividly remember WDTN not running ABC's entire daytime schedule because the signal from Cincinnati's then-ABC affiliate, WKRC, covered their market so well. That's almost unheard of now, punting some of the network shows because another city and essentially rival station carries them. Another not...

Re: CRTC Considers Banning Fox News in Canada
Your government doesn't respect freedom of the press. The CRTC holds Canada's radio and TV stations to higher standards, and takes all complaints seriously. Also, in addition to terrestrial radio and TV, all cable and satellite channels must be licensed as well. That includes Fox News. As for the a...

Re: WNWO to eliminate newscasts
Look what happened to Dayton in 2004 when NBC no longer wanted to be affiliated with Sinclair’s low performing WKEF at the time and pursued a deal with Lin broadcasting to move NBC over to WDTN. WDTN (originally with NBC) and WKEF (originally with ABC) swapped networks in 1980, as ABC wanted a stro...

Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations
FOX has great sports programming (especially in Big Ten country) but has been a distant also-ran to CBS and NBC in primetime for years... Therefore, if I were WUPW, I might be tempted to try to pry NBC from WNWO. Of note, beginning this fall, FOX's share of Big Ten telecasts will be diminished as N...

Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations
Riff Raff I’m sure there’s other stations that are part of the big four networks that don’t have local news, only one I can think off the top of my head is the ABC 30 in St. Louis. ...owned by Sinclair, which made no attempts to program news since folding its news department in 2014. From 2014 to 2...

Sinclair's stations in Omaha (KPTM) and Gainesville (WGFL) are also losing their newscasts -- both their stations have outsourced their newscasts to other Sinclair stations, like WNWO did:

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
Filing a petition/complaint with the FCC Sinklair to get Sinclair to lose there FCC licenses doubt that it goes anywhere at the FCC in my opinion. I don't know, MasterB. The FCC isn't exactly fond of Sinclair, from a few things I've read over the past five or so years As long as Sinclair can demons...

Re: Free pay channel previews
I was in Cleveland when channel 61 went active on pay-tv. They did a freebie preview of 'Dances With Wolves' before they scrambled everything. It only lasted a few years; over the air pay TV is not economically sustainabie. Even some years ago. Dances With Wolves came out in 1990, which by then cha...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
Not sure how this would work… but hypothetically could WDIV petition to be carried in Flint and Toledo… or could NBC mandate News carriage? Hell, having WDIV in Flint and Toledo would probably get some decent ratings. What about the Tri-Cities? If the market is left with no local NBC affiliate, who...
