Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations
FOX has great sports programming (especially in Big Ten country) but has been a distant also-ran to CBS and NBC in primetime for years... Therefore, if I were WUPW, I might be tempted to try to pry NBC from WNWO. Of note, beginning this fall, FOX's share of Big Ten telecasts will be diminished as N...

Re: NBC 24 Ending News Operations
Riff Raff I’m sure there’s other stations that are part of the big four networks that don’t have local news, only one I can think off the top of my head is the ABC 30 in St. Louis. ...owned by Sinclair, which made no attempts to program news since folding its news department in 2014. From 2014 to 2...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
Sinclair's stations in Omaha (KPTM) and Gainesville (WGFL) are also losing their newscasts -- both their stations have outsourced their newscasts to other Sinclair stations, like WNWO did:

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
Filing a petition/complaint with the FCC Sinklair to get Sinclair to lose there FCC licenses doubt that it goes anywhere at the FCC in my opinion. I don't know, MasterB. The FCC isn't exactly fond of Sinclair, from a few things I've read over the past five or so years As long as Sinclair can demons...

Re: Free pay channel previews
I was in Cleveland when channel 61 went active on pay-tv. They did a freebie preview of 'Dances With Wolves' before they scrambled everything. It only lasted a few years; over the air pay TV is not economically sustainabie. Even some years ago. Dances With Wolves came out in 1990, which by then cha...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
Not sure how this would work… but hypothetically could WDIV petition to be carried in Flint and Toledo… or could NBC mandate News carriage? Hell, having WDIV in Flint and Toledo would probably get some decent ratings. What about the Tri-Cities? If the market is left with no local NBC affiliate, who...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
KVAL is in Eugene. KEZI must be dominant there (Eugene was a two-station market into the 1980s) Until 1982 with the sign on of NBC affiliate KMTR, KVAL and KEZI were it for local TV -- KVAL was NBC, KEZI was (and still is) ABC, with the two sharing CBS. After KMTR's arrival, that station took NBC, ...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
...here in Toledo nobody has watched WNWO's news in decades anyway, going back to well before Sinclair owned the station. It's as if the station has been cursed since its 1966 sign-on as WDHO, as part of Overmyer's plan to create a fourth network. When the United Network came (and went) in 1967, WD...

Re: WNWO to eliminate newscasts
Are they keeping their NBC affiliation? Unfortunately, yes, But if it leads even less viewers watching WNWO, it would be worth NBC's while to find a new affiliate, even if it's as a subchannel of WTOL, WUPW or WTVG. I was just about to ask. Maybe TV 48 could get it :lol Don't know if they have any ...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
If Sinclair doesn’t provide local news or weather broadcasts (including severe weather alerts), it shouldn’t be allowed to continue to hold licenses for local broadcasts. That’s probably the only move that might get its attention. In Flint and Toledo, I foresee NBC either becoming a subchannel of t...

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
Quoting the article:
If Sinclair is giving up on broadcasting, why can't they sell the works instead of letting them go to rot?Apparently, Sinclair sees death (humans and animals) as bigger growth area than local television.

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
...I think Sinclair also has to worry about eliminating local news and having networks like NBC look for more reliable partners that are growing their affiliated stations… and possibly pulling their network agreement. Surprised NBC haven't done so already with WNWO, considering technical problems s...

Other call letters to avoid: WBBC WSTD WFUK WSMD WBBW WCUK WBBC existed in Michigan on 1330 AM in Flint prior to 1960, and later on 94.1 FM in Jackson until maybe 1973 or '74... the WBBC calls exist today in Blackstone, VA. WBBW also exists in Youngstown, OH, and WSMD in Mechanicsville, MD. WSTD 96...

Re: NBC25 and FOX 66 changes
If the FCC won’t deny Sinclair’s licenses, they likely wouldn’t remove any company’s licenses — and have essentially given up its oversight responsibilities. Whatever. Not going to happen. The only way the FCC will pull its licenses is if enough viewers file complaints of their dereliction of their...
