Re: February Ratings for G.R.
A few thoughts from an old guy, somewhat biased: I saw the change and the upswing of CCM (WCSG's format) ten-fifteen years ago. Forty, sixty years ago people were into the top 40. Then modern country came along, and it became the "Top 40" station. And CCM in most markets is now taking that top 40 im...

Re: the old WJPW-AM 810
For the record, Cornerstone moved the signal to 89.7. I paid a very good RF consultant to find a frequency to move WTHS, Hope College to, so we could increase power/coverage of the WAYG 89.9 signal. Not a chance. The consultant sent me all the data, there is no frequency in the NCE band to move WTHS...

Re: FM BC Band Animal Tracking Transmitters
Someone somewhere may have used the BCB FM frequencies, but for the last 30 years, there are dozens of 160-170 MHz freqs that are used. And the signals only transmit for 10 ms every 5 or 10 minutes for birds, much more often for really large and dangerous animals.

Re: WOOD-FM transmitter fried by lightning strike
This is the Muskegon transmitter site, 106.9, now WOOD-FM. I worked for them on a contract basis for a few years , some 20+ years ago. This is a broadcast engineers 2nd worse nightmare. Only thing worse is getting called that the station is off the air, and you drive to the site, to find the tower d...

Re: WCSG is new #1 radio station (AQH share) in April Nielsen survey
>"Chime in..." I am a 50 year veteran of radio in this market. I was privileged to work with Bruce Grant, Tom Quain, Bill Stryk, Uncle Buck, Doc Donavon, Arris Hampers, Andy Rent, Dennis Sutton, dozens more and then finishing up 23 years at WCSG. Why are WCSG and WJQ and WVGR winning? Really Simple....

Ed's Obituary. Nicely written. I worked with him at some events, and he was a great guy to have around. We loose another one.

If this was in the US, it would be easier and cheaper for the school board to buy the Am and shut it down!

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
And WLAW is transmitting from the new site, the water tower. They can dot the i's, and close the book on both of these moves. >..."this weekend to see if LAV is up to power yet. My guess is no." Let me say this again. WLAV-FM is at full power at the Allendale site. Unless there is a problem there, a...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
Last week Saturday, WLAV went to 50% power around noon. Yesterday (Friday the 14th) WLAV went to full power from the site in Allendale, sometime in the late afternoon.

>"It never happened."
Clear channel is what happened. And in an even bigger twist, CUZ corporate folks were going to buy the land, as opposed to the leased land that LAV was on. would have been a great deal for everyone. But the idea was WCUZ's, so Clear channel had to kill it.

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?
Probably in the mid 80's, WCUZ's studio was still in the McKay Tower. Massive FM opening. The studio air monitor was taken over by a station on 101.3, in St. Louis. Lasted for 3 hours. They were killing us in most areas in Grand Rapids. It was until I was only about 5-7 miles from the transmitter si...

TurkeyTop, I was just like you. I was 13 in 1966 when I got my novice license, and boy did I envy a lot of equipment. And BTW, a few years ago i saw the Mohican at the big Dayton hamfest. $ 200, and it sold. I wanted that radio, but not for $ 200. Well, I kept my eye on Ebay, one came up, and I got ...

Re: The untold story of TV-43
MW, hang on, I've got a twist for you.. Grand Rapids Baptist College (before the name change to Cornerstone) was approached in the mid 90's to buy the CP and put the station on the air. I was only contract engineering for their WCSG radio station at the time. I had a well respected TV engineer come ...
