Re: Versatile C. Crane FM Very Low Power Transmitter

Transmitting on "between channel " freqs does not help much because most good receivers, today, are locked down digital tuners. The only thing I know about poor range is hardly anyone who messes with those transmitters had no clue on antenna theory or construction ! Running a piece of wire out the w...

Re: Now IHM Wants To Own ALL The AM Stations!

Expanding FM ? Could go down from 88 to 82 to take over VHF TV ch 6, I suppose.
Can't go up because that's the Aero Comm band from 108 up to 136 MHz. :eek

Re: Mini DXpedition

Sounds like fun ! What form of antenna were you using, up in those trees, was it a band specific design ? I know the lower frequencies can be more reliable when sunspots are not going very strong :D Today I managed to have a nice CW chat with a ham located on an island North of Seattle on 24.910 MHz...

Re: Big8radio.com - Online Tribute Radio Station

I still prefer hearing music on the Airwves and not so much on the internet. Prefer AM since FM is nearly all HipHop and "urban" themes . Dont get me wrong, I love R&B and MOtown music, but this "modern" stuff is NASTY.

What's going on on 1480?

Spanish programming on Ypsi's 1480 but today when I was tuning the band , watching AM modulation bandwidth on my band scope, I heard OLDIES from the 60's playing on 1480 ! Change of format now ?? I did not listen for long and may go back and monitor again later.

I like some of the night time shows on 62 but with the sport playoffs going on, all they are is re-runs lately.

Re: WUFL QRMing WBZ Oct 14

Just for fun I tuned in WBZ on My new Icom 7300 radio, see carrier going up to S9 (50 Microvolts) + 25 dB most of the time and NO HINT of any other signal there.! I was using a 250 ft Coax fed dipole made for 1.800 MHz I imagine qite a bit of retun loss on 1030 kHz. Quite a bit of modulation showing...

Re: FM BC Band Animal Tracking Transmitters

The ranger in the photo posted, sure is holding a 150-170 MHz Yagi antenna !
If you went to 72-75 MHz, the Yagi antennas would be roughly twice that size.
Not so good for tracking in the field.

Re: CB Skip...it's Back

Only time I hear any activity on 11 M CB is when there is a E-lyer skip opening, (Most of the late summer openings have died out) then I hear plenty of distant signals piling up on popular channels. Recently my only decent antenna for listening to that is a 28 MHz , 3 element Yagi, temporarily stuck...

Re: Coming in fron London

since almost all Chicago's FM stations went to Sears tower antennas, Wonder if the fomula for high ant /Low ERP....low antenna / high ERP still gives the same distance for the same signal strength reading at a distance. Or has there been a recalculation for this .
