Re: WDIV off the air?

Stormy WX in S.E. MI !
A few times I heard some AM signals go off and come back on, maybe lightning hit on the tower could cause transmitter to shut down and reset again, or AC power fail and come back before a generator could start up.

Re: Old WCXI,Fenton towers.

Had to go to Flint a few days ago and used US23.
YES I still see the two towers for the old Fenton AM station. Just N. of the silver lake Rd exit!
One has a few microwave dishes near the top , may be still in use for some non broadcast operation.
Maybe too expensive to take down the other tower.

Old WCXI,Fenton towers.

Was looking at GoogleEarth and saw the two old WCXI towers just off exit 79, US23. The Image date was 7/2023. I am sure it has been several years since they moved the transmitter down to between Wixom and Milford, off Maple Rd. !

Does any one know if the towers are actually gone?

Re: Bad News For Radio Hobbyists

Looking around my Radio Room, I see 9 items made by MFJ, each over $100. Many smaller items, like atenna insularots and parts.
I once had a nice CW conversation with Martin Jue.

Re: Sleuthing Digital TV Signal Problems

It used to be if you knew somebody at the stations, they would tell you .... . I called a friend who worked there with an old First Phone and told him my suspicion that they were running the exciter directly into the antenna, and he said that was "probably" it. Yes back in the 60's and 70's , when ...

Re: Sleuthing Digital TV Signal Problems

recently , while watching a network local signal thru our Comcast cable, I have seen digital video signal breaking up. (Pixelating) quite often, No way to tell if the on-air signals were also breaking up or it was in the cable system. I am thinking of adding an antenna and a switch to select air or ...

Re: 8 tower array in Hamilton On.

There are a few more big arrays I see when driving East into Niagara Falls, two are between Hamilton and St Catharins. I see a few big Toronto stations are transmitting from the South side of the lake !

Re: FM reception in the southeast part of the US

I picked up WLW in downtown Plymouth back in the 90's. AM (WLW) and FM have totally different kinds of propagation beyond the normal service areas. AM radio (Medium wavelandth) can travel long distances via skywave where the signal hits the ionosphere hundreds of miles up and is bent back to Earth ...

Re: FM reception in the southeast part of the US

Something to consider ; South Florida and the Gulf coast is pertty flat land with no hills or mountain ranges to block the line of sight! When I was in the mid Fl Keys I could hear many steady FM signals from Miami (90 miles) and even a rare few Tampa/St Pete (200 Mi) stations intermittantly. I was ...

Re: Crawford WMUZ AM Antenna Array

YES, That large array is quite an antenna for 1200 WMUZ ! I have checked it out on Google Earth and driven to the area to eyeball it. The company that I worked for, in Chicago, also acquired 1200 kHz as a NEW frequency for that area and built a large array on the far south side , beaming up through...

Re: Visit America's Last Morse-Code Station

DONT FORGET, there are literally millions of individually owned and operated Amateur Radio Stations around the world. They can use Morse code on the CW mode of transmission if they want to . Thousands of those operators belong to various organizatons promoting the use of Morse Code on the air ! Most...
