WWV gives you updates on the time about every minute or so 😝
It's a bit more accurate than "about every minute". also gives propagation reports and marine storm warnings for shipping. Is also a primary frequency standard.

Re: Could WWV Be Repurposed As A Private Combined News Outlet/Time Signal Like Radio Reloj?

Our govt is not like the one in Cuba (yet) and would not be interested in giving WWV over to a civilian outfit, They would rather just scrap it.
In Cuba all those stations with the same program are also eliminating any signals from the outside from getting to the people.

Re: Rare catch on 720 AM at night

One morning, a lot of years ago, I heard a station giving out traffic warnings during an ice storm in Oklahoma, wiped out 740 in Toronto totally. Seems like a station in Tulsa (maybe KRMG ?) was running the daytime power of 50 kW and daytime antenna during the emergency situation. . Some times you j...

Have been hearing various E-skip (or perhaps F2?) just about every morning for the last week now.
Most likely some E-layer popping up, not going to be any F-layer skip up on that freq range, with the low solar activity..

Re: Metro Detroit CB

Strong enough to be local, maybe commercial paging is trying to reclaim 27 MHz channels.
May be testing a system. When I first started in mobile radio servicing (4 decades + ago), there were a few systems on the 27 MHz range. using legally assigned channels for paging.

Re: Old WDTR Tower gone

I was in that building, some years ago, doing some long overdue maintainance on the Detroit Schools security radio system. I had to walk past some of the original TV transmitting equipment. Also a working studio for the FM station that is probably a back-up for the new broadcast facility in Wixom ! ...

Re: Who had the better Oldies on AM

I recall the Rock format battle between CKLW, WKNR, WXYZ and WJBK in the 60's. When I was 17 I brought the first FM radio into our house, It was a three tube Granco Tuner that I listened to with some qulaity crystal earphones I rescued from my high school language lab, (trashed because of a broken p...

Re: WNYY 1470

WNYY 1470 was received numerous times last evening from Utica, Mi. they also have a translator at 94.1, they call the station Pure Oldies 94.1 and 1470. I do believe they are from Ithaca, New York. Lately the MW band has been pretty hot. total chaos on many of the "regional" chnnels and interfering...

Wow, I wonder if the owner reads this board. From GP, look at the address. Right off the WLS Radioguide Special Thanks list.
I wonder if Art Vuolo is still doing the "Radioguides" ??

It's actually WCFS-FM Elmwood Park, I believe. I remember when Elmwood Park had WXFM. the studios and tower were right on Harlem ave, behind a company that sold aluminum siding and windows !@! I spent a few idle hours sitting with the classical music host and chatting about radio, music, philosophy...

Re: WGN Transmitting Station From 1939

I drove down the "Radio Hiway" many times with three of the big AM tower sites on my way to Motorola schools in Shaumberg, IL ! After I left Chicago, one of my friends joined the WGN engineering staff and he promised to give me a tour of the facilities, but we never got together at a time we could d...

Re: Solar Cycle 25

I have been logging a lot more CW contacts on 160, 80 and 60 meters the last few years. More are coming down to the low freq bands because of poor propagation on he old "DX" bands like 20, 15 and 10 Meters. Get a big spool of # 14 wire from the big home improvement supply store and hang up some low-...
