Re: 98.7 signal in Genesee County

Correct. It's a mile or so north of there, at Lyndon and Cloverdale. The studios were in that building too. One day, the bullets started flying out front, and everyone had to duck and cover. Not long after, studios were moved to Farmington Hills. If I recall correctly, that small building still has...

Re: WWV

I actualy use WWV to set my clocks and watch now and then, When I plan to do some radio operating I check WWV and CHU on their several frequencies to see how propagation is, simply , by checking signal strength of the stations. I heard the marine WX forecast and storm warnings will be ended.

Re: WPON , Time to pull the plug.

On the GoogleEarth image of 7/05/2018, the towers are finally up and there have been some days last month when the transmitter was on the air for a few hours. Probably fine tuning the directional pattern ? Still some hope , I do not think the Fenton station has been using the new shared array yet ??...

Re: any thoughtssss

One good example is Honolulu, there are 17 AM stations and only 7 towers placed around the city with shared transmitters/.!

Re: any thoughtssss

Stations with closeby other transmitting antennas are NOTHING,
There are many locations, where real estate is costly, where AM stations actually SHARE a tower or ARRAY. Co-located transmitters can use high Q filters to isolate each other and combine signals to feed ONE antenna system ! :eek

Re: any thoughtssss

Local (daylight) AM signals actually are ture ground wave, where the transmitter antenna induces currents in the surface of the Earth !

Re: NOAA Weather Radio

How I check for bad WX ! Love the ability to get a WX forecast and current conditions at the press of a button/ SURE it is not something to listen for any long period of time, But it is nice to have. I Have 3 scanners two desk top and one portable, I keep one chan programmed for wx, usually locked ...

I have noticed a few "short stacks" FMBC antennas, around the Detroit Metro area , a few in the New Center area/.

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit

a 26 inch dipole made of # 10-16 gauge insulated wire would work better for "Fox 2" (RF ch 7) than a high priced UHF antenna that is dsigned for more than twice the freq you want !

Re: The Old FM Band 42-50mhz

There was a lot of activity on 30-50 MHz band in my early years of mobile radio repair work. I could hear sporadic E-layer propagation bringing southern State's Sheriff departmant signals into the Detroit area, strong and clear in the summers. Little by little the users migrated , first to 420-450 M...

Re: CFRB Or WINS 1010 On STA? WINS 1010 Dominates In SE MI

CFRX 6070 is alive and well. Just now tuned in with my 90 Ft dipole up 35 Ft in trees. It is reading S9+20 on the FT990 meter. Not bad for 1 kW ! CFRB on 1010 is not doing as well with the daytime D layer soaking up the signal, audible but with QSB (fading) and a best reading about S8, using a 250 F...

I just posted on my Facebook the other night that I love nighttime AM radio. News from New York, sports from Chicago and hate-filled fear mongering from all over thr country.
And George Noory you can hear from 40 different cities at night !
