Was visiting family in Chatham and was flipping through the dial, and could hear french programming mixed with star 105. I came home and sure as crap, its from Windsor! My days of listening to Star 105.5 OTA, are now over! What a total WASTE of a frequency! The Government complains on how much they are in debt, Well they are spending on stupid crap like this! This station is NOT needed, and will not serve any purpose, but to hog up the dial! I know a way for them to make money................ START SELLING THESE FREQUENCIES, EQUIPMENT, AND STOP PUTTING RADIO STATIONS ON THE AIR THAT NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO!

THE CBC Owns Too many frequencies From Windsor To Chatham

1-88.1- Chatham
2-89.9- Windsor
3-91.9- Leamington
4-97.5-Windsor
5-103.1-Windsor -French
6-103.9-Windsor- French
7-105.5- Chatham- French

They have 3 French stations with ONLY 7% Of people who speak french In Essex And Kent counties, where i go to school at (U Of Windsor), ive only met like 2 people who speak french fluently

I Think CJBC-1 103.9 should be the only french station

i think 103.1 would be good for A WWJ Simulcast if AMP Doesnt flip
and put 97.5 on 91.9 and sell 97.5 For A WJR Simulcast.

Red notes correction.

How do you pass them over the border? Write a cheque to Harper? :razz

I looked it up on recnet.com
It's a directional signal that sends a maximum of 2,400 watts to the southeast. It transmits from the CBC building on Riverside Street West. Just cry "urban interference" to the CRTC and your AM signal gets a downtown FM rebroadcast in Canada.

On my home radio, depending on which way I turn the antenna, I get either CBEF or Star 105.5. I'll try the car tomorrow morning, but I have a feeling it will either be a cluttered mess or CBEF will win out. Not that I listen to either station, but why couldn't they just stay on 540AM only!

105.5 is from Windsor, not Chatham. I just happened to be in Chatham waiting at a traffic light flipping through the radio. As I came down the 401 towards Windsor, the signal got stronger.

105.5 was a Chatham allocation, I guess they moved it to Windsor.

The CBC can still establish 105.5 MHz in Chatham. It is in the Long Range Plan. Right now 99.1 MHz is utilized in both Wallaceburg and Windsor which are not very far apart.

The only problem with that plan is Chatham is now hobbled. The interfering contour, even with 3 kW, hits Windsor.

Let me make sure I understand this- 105.5 FM is a repeater of CBEF 540, meaning they'll be spending money on both signals correct? 540 is still sticking around as I understand it, probably to still provide Sarnia service.

correct, AM 540 will still be on the air. Again this is a waste! 103.1 outta Leamington has a decent signal in the Windsor area. I wish I could take this station off the air! :horns

Wasted signal for sure!!!

How many French language signals does SW Ontario need?!! Good grief.

Extremely little wattage must be radiating northward from this new station; not even a hint of it on the car radio where I live. All it's doing is producing more static to interfere with K-Love's translator out of Rochester Hills.

Speaking of Windsor-area stations, why does 100.7 The Rock radiate such little power toward Macomb County? 97.5 is much farther away from me, has similar co-channel considerations (both 97.5 and 100.7 have full power Class B's in Lansing), yet comes in noticeably stronger here. Is it because a directional pattern with a minor lobe toward Macomb County would be more difficult to design?

The outrage isnt just waste of freq. and bandwidth, but what a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Because of high gas taxes were only paying $5.20 gal for gasoline at the pump but we have have money to waste on multiple minority language radio stations in a mostly english language area.

Im not against them having French radio, but how many do you need for the small pop. The french canadians I know never ever mention these stations, if we talk radio they talk about Detroit stations.

And to think in the prov. of Quebec its against the law to put up an sign in english. We must be crazy. :barf
