Tigers signed 1st baseman Prince Fielder to a 9 yr $214 million contract. BIG signing for the Tigers. With his bat and Cabreras and Martinzes, when he comes back, plus, if Boesch comes through, Tigers are one big power threat. Illitch going for the fences on this one. He wants a WS championship right now.

COULD is the word here! There were high expectations the year we traded for Miggy, didn't pan out. This is different with Fielder and the hope that the pitching steps up even more. Sounds like Miggy could be going to third? I know he has played there before, he was also lighter back then. Of course there is the DH, which I see him there, not having to find a spot for Martinez until next year. What does happen a year from now when Martinez comes back, still have time to figure that one out still interesting.

My son said he heard the Cabrera has been working out at third over the winter. If so, you think the Tigers were working on this for awhile?

Soupy, Miggy gave this deal his blessing.

You thought Raburn caught hell playing 3B? With Miggy, Leyland will eventually need a bigger cap if he wants to cover the hairless parts.

If Miggy loses the fifty pounds necessary to play the position adequately, I'll be duly impressed.

I'm pretty stoked about this.

I have a friend who is a Rangers fan and they decided to go with Yu Darvish over Prince Fielder! Haha!

Supposedly, Ilitch was impressed with Prince since he was a kid. Other team needs could now be more easily met simply because they were able to sign Prince.

Yes, I know. What I was saying was that supposedly Miggy has been working out at third for a little while. Does that mean he was working out because he already knew that the Tigers were going after Fielder and was good with it.

If it's true, I sure hope fans cut Miggy a little bit slack at the hot corner...and that he doesn't hurt himself. I do feel confident Leyland won't let a defensive "incompatibility" go on to ridiculous lengths. I'm also certain the skipper will consider who's pitching for us. We'll be seeing plenty of Inge over there this season with a roundhouse arrangement at DH.

I think we will find out if the franchise truly believes Cabrera can play third by their actions between now and the start of the season. If they believe he can, the logical step would be to sign Juan Pierre and stick Young at DH. If they did that and are able to bring in a decent 4-5 starter, I might have to call them the favorites to win it all. Not quite there yet, though.

They don't need, and won't get, Cabrera playing Gold Glove defense. If he is serviceable and makes progress, then things are rosy. Martinez is done playing positionally. If it is a necessity to platoon first and DH, this team won't be nearly as strong moving forward. It might work fine for this season, but when Martinez comes back I hope he isn't odd man out.

Tigers won't go far with Leyland being coach.

They already have genius. They've been to the World Series and last year they knocked off the Yankees.

I just hope the rest of the team can hit. Austin Jackson needs to bounce back, cut down on the stikeouts, who knows what Boesh will do? He hit great the first half of rookie year and went in horrible slump. Last year he got injured. Don't think Peralta will have the year he had last year, not even close. Avila had a first half and then slumped at the end. That could be because he was tired. Guy was an Iron man. Does everyone think he will hit like he did last year? Delmon Young, I think he will be steady, nothing great, maybe .270 avg. After that, toss up on who plays second. Who the hell knows what is going to happen there? I hope these guys do hit, if they do it will be a fun team to watch. Just can't have Fielder and Cabrera the only guys hitting in this lineup.
