Findlay Publishing Co.'s 100.5 WKXA going country

WKXA announced today that it will move to a country format Tuesday and will be known as “Your Country Now, 100.5-WKXA.”
.
“The new country format will offer listeners the best in today’s country music as well as offer some of the favorites that date back to the late 1990s,” said Mike Holman of the Findlay Publishing Co., which owns the station.

The company, which publishes The Courier, also owns WFIN, which has a news-talk format, and classic rock station WBUK.

I wonder how this might affect surroundng stations. Not so much K-100 or T102 but 103.7 CKY and 107.7 The Wolf? I find it hard to believe there is that much demand for 5 area country stations.

There goes another preset off of my radio. I have no idea what to replace it with, especially since apparently 89X is not an option anymore.

It's bad enough that Detroit radio is so bad I have to use my FM2 section for the dozen times a year I'm in Toledo, but when I can't even find six stations to put on that dial (and one of those is a scratchy WRIF), you know NW Ohio radio blows.

listening to 89X via a webstream is still an option, right?

WTF - another country? Let's see, 107.7, 103.7, 99.9 and 630 aren't enough country stations to go around without Findlay pig-piling-in?

It's all about money. Country sells. Years ago I recall the beautiful music station in Dayton holding a number one arbitron rating, but dumping it for country , which debuted at number fhree....but.....it was sold out. Again, money talks, format walks.

In a way this is a return to the heritage of the 100.5 FM signal, which was country for many years as WHMQ before it became WKXA (shuffling WHMQ off to 107.7). Of course, in those days Findlay listeners didn't have five or six other country signals to choose from. I wonder if 96.7 WBVI flips to Classic Hits to pick up the slack.

95,3, 102.9, 99.5 (at least in northern Toledo)

In Findlay right now, 103.7 WCKY is the only Country outlet with a strong signal.

K100, T102 and The Wolf are all listenable, but none of these stations (at least on paper) have a booming signal into Findlay.

90's country is pretty good actually, hope the move works out for WKXA. I listened to some T102 for a bit a couple of years ago when I was in Lima, OH. Not too bad from what I heard. And I have listened to K100's online stream, again not bad. But I will say country music is changing for the worse in my opinion. Nowadays it's hard to tell if its a country song or a pop song....

Agreed, especially the songs featuring female lead singers.
