From the WMOM website. After Synergy Broadcasting fired Rod Beckman in June following the acquisition of WKLA, it appears WMOM will be the official station of Ludington Orioles sports. As I read online, Rod Beckman and the Ludington Orioles are like Ernie Harwell and the Detroit Tigers. Glad to hear that Rod will still be broadcasting games in Ludington!

Beckman Back with Sports on WMOM Radio

WMOM Radio (102.7 FM) is covering 35 local Ludington High School games this fall and winter. Local sports legend Rod Beckman has agreed to cover all Ludington Orioles basketball play by play. Rod will direct all of MOM Radio's coverage for the football season as well. Todd Hansen and Gary Castonia will cover nine Oriole football games beginning with the traditional rivalry of Manistee and Ludington on August 24th.

Mr. Beckman has 40 years of continuous broadcast experience. He was most recently the sports director of WKLA/Lake Michigan Broadcasting. Beckman's distinctive voice is closely associated with play by play coverage of all Mason County sports over his long career. He said "I'm just happy that local sports can continue into the future on MOM Radio."

WMOM will cover 9 fall football games starting August 24th, 6 Ludington Girls Basketball games will be covered starting December 14th and at least 20 Ludington Boy's basketball games are on the schedule starting December 4th.

A number of local and area businesses have already committed to support continuing local sports coverage on WMOM.

WMOM's signal: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?ca ... =L&hours=U

WKLA-FM's signal: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?ca ... =L&hours=U

From personal experience, I cannot get WKLA-FM much past Hart/Shelby heading southbound, while I can pick up WMOM near Muskegon.

I'll give Beckman six months before he bails, and that's being generous. He can't work with Pat on any permanent basis. No one can.
Pat doesn't have the money to pay him and he knows he doesn't. Although I'm sure he painted a far different picture for Beckman.
Guarantee that Beckman lasts no longer than one football season @ WMOM.
Pat is a NOTORIUOS slow pay. Beckman is selling insurance or real estate or some such thing for a living by 2013. Bank on it.

I met Pat last April. Went up to Ludington with Tony Clark on a Sunday night to do some emergency IT work. I found him to be a genuinely nice guy. He took me down to the BP station and topped off my tank, and he brought us dinner. Plus, he wrote the check for the work that night. He's a decent guy in my eyes. He's probably got his share of stress, but what independent broadcaster doesn't these days?

I say Lopeman's a decent guy too.

If you trash him, provide some details.

Well I can tell you from experience that he doesn't pay all of his employees on time. He has in the past, in order to pay people like Dan Drollet, asked one or more of his employees to hold their paycheck for several days (sometimes a week or more). Even after several days he will then tell them to cash it at Mejier instead of their bank. And sometimes that isn't long enough and the checks still bounce. I've seen him pay up $500 in one year alone for bounced paychecks. He has EXTREME difficulty managing a checkbook. I've have witnessed him tell employees on payday to come back at 5:00 pm to pick up their check. They come back at 5:00 pm and guess what? Pat's not there. Some of those times he was already on his way back to Wisconsin and the paycheck wasn't available. There are a few people out there who have had no problems with Pat. The overwhleming majority of those people have had brief to little contact with him. This isn't trashing, it's just the truth. Pat will struggle to pay Rod Beckman. Rod may very well get paid on time but it will probably be at the expense of a younger, less experienced employee. Pat's pretty good at bullying people into accepting late paychecks. He should be good at it, he's had a lot of practice at it. I'm sure the Boatman can vouch for Pat's late paychecks. I know for a fact that Pat consistently paid him late while he was at WMOM.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beckman has a side job outside of broadcasting.

I've also heard WKLA-FM will still cover high school sports. I'm wondering if they'll cover Hart and Shelby. I do know WKZC will still cover Mason County Central.
