Did the folks over at WTCM-AM fall asleep or what?

They've been the top dog so long with Talk Radio in the north, they must of thought they no one else would come in to bother them. It might just be a little Manistee Class A FM station now, but the application on file will turn it into a C3 when granted! Who knows how much more it can be improved then???

Why do I bring this up? How about Rush, Sean and Mark all on the little FM that covers (not real well everywhere yet) the Traverse City area. Good signal in some areas downtown and you can listen static free most of the way to Elk Rapids on 31! That means it must be really good on the area west and south of TC.

Looks like Roy finally stuck it to Ross this time! Roy even has the Talk Hosts pictures on the outside wall of their TC studio on the bay. (Great FM signal in that area)

Norm, what happen here? How did this slip by you guys (Jack)? Wasn't anyone paying attention to what other stations were doing? To let them pick up the same programs on an FM that not only covers a good part of the metro, but an FM that's up sizing!!!

I should mention the they also have Beck in the morning, the same as WJNL-AM Kingsley. Stone didn't even know about it until I ask him about it.

You AM guys better watch out, the FM boys are coming to get you!

Sorry to be so nitpicky, but you ARE in the communications business. You lose all credibility when you don't know how to use the language properly.

Why address Norm first? Why does everybody do that here? He is not the PD.

Carry on.

They'd probably just put the 580 progamming on one of the better TC FM signals. They were once simulcasting 103.5 on 92.9, so don't say it couldn't happen.

I wouldn't dream of saying "it couldn't happen", but it's highly unlikely. The syndicators now have to protect WCCW-FM.

The other two Biederman FM's are doing very well at what they've done for years and from what they say, WJZQ is doing great too. Why would they want to change any of them, even if they could?

He probably asked me because as far as I know no one else that works here is on.
I'm SURE we were informed and can complain, The EIB network sales is in charge of paying Rush $36 million or whatever he makes, it gets competitive. The arb metro WAS Grand Traverse, Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet, well still is because McDonald is the last buying the book. Who cares about Manistee in terms of ratings? I can get Rush clear as a bell in Frankfort which is Benzie. We go to Canada they don't, and besides they don't have me HAR!! Over lapping signals with same hosts happens all the time.
Z93 is doing REAL well in sales BTW (finally) and picked up Open House Party from you-know-who.

Norm, glad to hear all is well at Radio Center!

I know we could count on you to chime in with a knowledgeable post on this topic.

Not to rock the boat, but this is a little more than a little over lap of signals, it's a major over lap. Time will tell what will happen in the end. My original post was not about ratings, but about where actual listeners can receive the shows that they like.

I've heard some good things about Z93 from some young folks here in Charlevoix. It's getting stronger, even if it's right here in KHQ's back yard.

You wouldn't syndicate your show for WCUZ-FM would you? Probably not. :)

That program stopped being relevant about 10 years ago. Outstanding program during the 90's; listened regularly on 104.5 Sunny FM back in the day.

I will say this -- if I had to pick between OHP and Saturday Night Online (which is the show KHQ runs), I'd still choose OHP, even though the show is past its prime.

Saturday Night Online is geared toward teenagers, it seems. OHP is not.

Exactly, as is the rest of KHQ.

IMO WCUZ may have the best signal of any station in Manistee and Ludington (with the possible exception of WWKR). When it first signed on, it stopped the scan near West Shore Community College in Scottville and I've carried it close to Cadillac. I wouldn't be surprised if it can be heard in Two Rivers, Kewaunee, Algoma, and parts of the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin.

Maybe WCUZ has a great signal, but all I heard yesterday (Sunday 8/19) was the carrier.
Nothing but dead air when I checked between 1:30 and 2:00 (pm)

@tvbobn They are technically in a different market than WTCM AM, so they have no chance of losing Rush, Hannity, etc.

Technically, that doesn't mean anything! They don't always go by "markets" when they decide what station is going to get a show. Manistee isn't a market and isn't technically in one.

I know of another FM station that's miles and miles, several counties away from a AM station that has some of this programing and they won't let the FM station have any of it because of the AM raised a stink. The coverage areas don't even come close to each other. So in a market or not, it's more of a matter of who they want to have it.

By the way, why are you on my ass, I didn't fall asleep and let the competition down the street get 9 hours of the top rated Talk programs on an FM signal that covers my main AM area! I just let others know about it.

They are not going to take it from a Heritage station and give it to an untested startup out of the market.

Sorry, I don't mean to be "on your ass." I just did some research and some asking and that's what I found. No need to get butt-hurt over the deal.
