In the past couple of times I've been up north it seems like WUPS has been tweaking its music away from Classic Rock/Hits like they had before and more toward Adult Hits. Even some R&B gold that shows up on AC playlists, like Club Nouveau's "Lean On Me" and TLC's "Waterfalls," are played there now. I even heard Maroon 5! I like the change seeing as there's more than enough classic rock to go around across northern Michigan. The old Classic Rock/Hits format is still available on Gaylord's Eagle 101.5 (if you can stay awake long enough to listen to it; the Eagle stations used to be an interesting listen with their little-bit-of-all-genres playlists, now they're just the same old crusty classic rock you hear everywhere else).

Naturally, it looks like they've disabled their streaming, so now I will be unable to check out these changes first hand. >:

Variety Hits and Adult Contemporary (especially a Rock AC-leaning version) are two formats that might do well on that signal.

One setback to doing Variety Hits, though, is that Mt. Pleasant already has one such station. That being said, Cadillac, Houghton Lake and Big Rapids are currently unserved by the format, and it sounds like Eagle 101.5 is the leaving the door open for an 80's/90's pop-leaning competitor.

Also, TC doesn't have a Variety Hits station either and UPS gets into TC.

Isn't 104.5 Bob-FM Variety Hits? (Granted, their coverage area is very limited. Still, that station has a city grade signal in & around TC proper.)

I like WUPS. They have gone toward a tighter 70's and 80's hits format with a sprinkle of their deeper classic rock stuff still. It sounds like what I imagine WKLT was like when first going on the air.

Bob FM definitely has a wider library. I have heard stuff on that station I have never heard on radio ever. To be sadly honest; these two stations are largely what I listen to if I have to listen to commercial radio in TC.

Forgot about Bob-FM, but their coverage area is quite small. Good luck getting that station south/west of the Benzie area. I think 100.1 out of Bear Lake has a bigger coverage area.

I would agree that the coverage area of Bob sucks.

UPS can be heard over a much larger area than Bob-FM, even though WQLH interferes on the west coast of MI.

For comparison, Bob-FM can only be heard in parts of 11 counties while WUPS can be heard in parts of 39 counties, more counties than WTCM-FM.

does WSNX ever knock out BOB-Fm during tropo events.

Interestingly, I cannot get WUPS here south of Grayling and I am well within the listening area! Was outdoors with my Sony Boom Box and all I got from 98.5 was static.

WXER out of Sheboygan, WI is a bigger threat than WSNX, especially on the lakeshore.

If someone in the house has a TV or radio running and it is tuned to 87.7 MHz (television channel 6), there will be IF cancellation, making it virtually impossible to hear 98.5 FM.

You are very close to WGRY-FM's transmitter, so some sort of weird interference thingy with them might be going on, too.

I can see WGRY's tower out my window. I do know that 100.3 bleeds over to the adjacent frequencies and I can even hear it coming through the speakers in my TV.
