Putting White Caps on over the annual Jim Rome Smack Down. You couldn't put the Caps on 1340am for one day? Lame.

I'd MUCH rather listen to the Whitecaps than Jim Rome. Any day. And it's one word, "Whitecaps," not two. Just like the idiots who write Superbowl as one word when it's two. I'm close to a rant, so I'll shutup and go away now. :razz

Single-A minor league baseball on the radio is such a compelling listen!

Give me Jim Rome any day of the week over that.

People listen to the game while at the game sometimes. I think when it's closer to the All Star break and the playoffs, more people tune in. But airing a meaningless game in May over the Smack Off is amateur.

Going to a game is a fun family outing. How many people are die hard middle level class A minor league baseball fans? In my years in Grand Rapids, I never listened to a whitecaps game and I am a H*** baseball fan in general, one that has seen 32 different MLB stadiums and 26 current.

Typical bakita.

I understand bbl and the whitecaps have a contractual agreement, and bbl has to air most every game, but just the whitecaps, or move them permenantly to 1340. I cant imagine anyone wants to hear it.

A few years ago when. Bakita did his 10am-12pm show, someone called him to rip him replaying high school football on Saturday afternoons. His defense was " I get lots of requests from parents and players at the game that want to hear the replay. "

Small town mentality.

Yeah I also understand they have contractual rights to the Whitecraps but that doesn't mean the station doesn't have the ability to move a few games due to other events. Does the station not have contract with Rome? This would never happen if Bakita beloved Spartans ever became a conflict with the Whitecraps. Bakita has to know's this is the single most important day in the Jungle and it's not like they sprang this annual event on programmers at the last minute. Poor programming and piss poor management of the situation.

I have no idea how many people still listen, or don't listen, to the Whitecaps. When I worked for them, it was still very new and still a big deal. I'd guess after nearly 20 years the novelty may have worn off a bit. Jim Rome lost all credibility with me before he even grew his Satan beard when he kept calling Jim Everett "Chris" in a blatant attempt to make a name for himself in 1994. Just another loudmouthed dickhead, and I've not listened to or watched him since then if I have the choice.

Bakita is a good broadcaster, but he's a mediocre programmer. I agree with the small town mentality comment earlier. His station has so many more resources than ESPN 9-6-1, yet he can't beat them in any demos that matter to save his life!!!

WBBL = sports radio for old farts.

Hanlon really fucked over WBBL by letting the ESPN affiliation slip away so easily. Like so many other things, he miscalculated.
