The Late Great Paul Christy
The Late Great Paul Christy
Does anyone know as to how many Detroit radio stations that the late Paul Christy was involved with. To my knowledge, I know the first time that I have heard of Paul was in 1971 WKNR FM 100.3 became Stereo Island and was created by Paul. The next Paul Christy creation was at AM 1130 WCAR around 1972. I believe Mr. Christy also hired Jim Harper at 100.3 at some point. Can anyone add to Paul Christy’s Detroit Radio Legacy.

99.5 I believe during the "Hot Rocks" era in 1982-83.

I believe he was involved with WKSG "Kiss" 102.7 fm, in fact he may have hosted the morning show for a time. He was also responsible for the rebirth of WKNR (actually WWKR) in the late 70s (?).

I remember he owned WCFX 99.5 and WCRM 990 in Mount Pleasant in the 80's.

Re: The Late Great Paul Christy
Paul actually had the WABX calls parked on 990, while he and some partners owned WCFX. Before that, it was WRNN "Rock 99" and before that, WCRM. Long before Paul's ownership, I believe the place burned to the ground, not once, but twice.
Paul Christy is also responsible for giving us 92.3 WMXD, in it's original form.
The late Lisa Barry liked to tell the story about the time Paul filled in during morning drive on WXYT (or maybe still WXYZ at that point) and showed up for his shift wearing a tuxedo. The guy was rarely subtle.
