Blackburn Radio Layoffs

This from todays Windsor Star.........

Blackburn Radio Inc. has laid of several employees including 5 on air staff in the wake of declining sales.

Announcers include Craig Venn of Rock Mornings,Kimmberly Scott,kara Ro,Rebecca Wolfe and Lisa Daigneault.Other employees in management,marketing and I.T. were also laid off.

John Weese Blackburn vice pres. confirmed the layoffs tues saying cost cutting was neccessary because of drop in national sales."the downturn in the economy has alot to do with it" "and the increase of compettion for ad dollars in the region".

The music selection on CKUE 100.7/95.1 will be altered to broaden its audience Weese says."Were adding more classic rock to appeal to listeners 40 and up".

Weese added there will be more emphasis on news and info at the rest of the stations.

Declining sales? I don't believe the sales figures were ever good, judging from the lack of advertising I've heard on the Windsor area stations. Outside of drive time, it seems most commercial breaks are left largely unsold.

all the businesses 96.7/95.9/100.7 advertise are places no one gives two shits about, i went to one of them once to get a price quote on a chevy cavalier i was selling when i lived in windsor, and it was a TERRIBLE place.

the river and 89X are the only successful windsor stations, WHY, because they know how to good advertisement revenue,

Has anyone gave a listen to the Rock 100.7 since the firings?? What a POS they have turned that station into now.Its just going to be more white noise on an already crowded rock radio dial now with the "D" signed on.How this new playlist with more warnout classic rock is going to generate more advertisers is anyones guess.Who ever made this decision should be the one fired.

The Rock the last yr or so has really sounded good with the expanded playlist of more hard active rock and less of the songs played for the zillionth time on the dial and the cancon no one knows or cares about in this region.

Rock Mornings was also more entertaining to listen to as Craig Venn teamed up with former midday host and drummer of the Windsor band the Tea Party Jeff Burrows and his vast knowledge of music and chemistry with Venn, finally i thought they had a real morn show going.

They even had David Kaye tweak those boring outdated voiceovers to at least sound more "heavy rock".

This station is done IMO, last person out the door please turn out the lights.
