He has a statue outside the stadium and he's been venerated among too many for too long. The recent scandalous but morally ambiguous episode (at least as regards Paterno) will ultimately be but a footnote to posterity, much like Mozart being buried in a pauper's grave.

Sandusky is the primary/main villain. But Joe's hands were far from clean. What Joe did was not a singular error in judgement, it was an ongoing nonstop 10 year error in judgement concerning a pedophile. Because of that Joe lost any claim to anything other than "football coach". He lost any claim to "mentor", "leader", "molder of men"...pick what ever cliche anybody ever anointed him with and its worthless.

That is my version and I'm sticking to it. And for the record I used to like JoPa. Until this scandal destroyed his legacy (to me) I thought the only ting he was guilty of was hanging around a bit too long. Now he was nothing more than a child molester enabler, who also drew a paycheck to coach football.
