Not talking so much about eastern new york, I know Albany,NYC,Long island, etc... is Uber expensive and besides I have no interest. I'm thinking more like Buffalo area, i.e Dunkirk,Kenmore,Niagra falls, or even more upstate like White plains. I know housing in Western New York is pretty similar to Ohio or Michigan but are property taxes on average alot more?

What about stuff like Car insurance/plates? Is there a food tax in NY? just curious 8o

If you pick the Buffalo area, even Niagra Falls, I think you can expect alot more snow in the winter than we get around here.

Buffalo allows the bars to be open until 4AM. That's a plus.

according to this link $50,000 in Perrysburg Township would be $40,400 in Buffalo. I can't vouch for anything about the link, I just googled it.

edit: I think the way to interpret the number is that Buffalo is cheaper. So you only need 40,400 in Buffalo to live like 50,000 in Perrysburg township.

Taxes in New York state as a whole are sky high, not sure about Buffalo proper though.
