Byron McGreggor did a 20/20 CKLW news 'story' like the imfamous "Willie Mays Louisville Slugger Story" and was told if he did it again, he was out. Anybody remember what news story that was??

Per the documentary that aired on Detroit Public TV several years ago, one of the anchors was given an ultimatum after making a "burning baby" reference in a story about a house fire where an infant was killed.

That clip is great to hear!!! You really felt like news was NEWS on The Big 8.

Yeah that documentary was good, The Rise and Fall of the Big 8.
The 20/20 News segment is here on YouTube. Its great to hear how it came about.

I remember when they'd ask Jo-Jo in the chopper ''Are you high?''

The news anchor you are referring to is Randall Carlisle. The line was "baby hungry flames eat alive 5 children in Port Huron". Byron immediately called Randall and told him he "crossed a fine line." I spoke with Randall about this last year and he told me that he thought his line was creative....and explained that other anchors spoke lines that were much worse.

Au contraire ... this is great. When every other top-40 station went to news, you either turned it off or ignored it. On CKLW you turned the volume up and gave it your full attention.

Oh gosh, I saw a real news item today that screamed 20/20 News!

Crappy AP news brief, but I CKLW News would say it something like this:

The stench of burnt bacon filled the air in rural Ing-HAM County today,

when 19 --- 19, not 1, 2 or 12, but 19 fat porkin' pigs perished in a pole barn fire southeast of Lansing. Or is that Lan-singe?

Firefighters reportedly doused the sizzling pork chops with barbecue sauce, but alas: They were crispy critters by then.
