I remember logging that same station during similar conditions, back in the 1970s. I sent a reception report and asked for verification. The QSL never came but I still have the entry in my log book.

Some impressive catches for sure, 48125!!!

I don't believe I've ever heard any FMs from the Rocky Mountain region. That is incredible.

I actually listened to KRRO online a couple times many years ago. Are they still doing Rock?

I was out listening in the car last night while running errands and heard some strange stuff too. KMOR on 93.3 from Gering, Nebraska(classic hits station). Short time later on 93.3 heard a contemporary christian station from Billings, Montana KURL I believe were the call letters. Heard something on 93.1 from Texas, but never did catch any call letters.

Another possibility for Top 40 at 93.1 might be KQIZ in Amarillo, TX. http://www.931thebeat.com/

M.W. - living in Saline a couple of years ago, I picked up a couple of Colorado stations on E-skip and even got one to QSL. It was KSPK 102.3 in Walsenburg (Colorado City/Pueblo area). They sent a water bottle and bumper sticker. Nothing beats the thrill of your first QSL. :) That also happens to be the farthest west E-skip I've ever caught. Farthest south was Key West, FL (from Ann Arbor).

That was my question too "TheForce" - did you log the station via their RDS or HD ID? When I received the 100KW PBS-FM from Texas a few years back, I got their ID on the HD radio while they were talking!
RDS is great for DX'ers if FMs would just use them!

It honestly doesn't take much if condx are right. Last year around this time, I picked up KLBJ 93.7 Austin TX while sitting in my car fiddling with the crappy radio in it down by metro airport (RF HELL). I'm hoping this summer's Es season is fruitful.

I don't have anything RDS capable, only an HD radio in the house to DX with, and it did not register anything during this opening.

That's the only reason I put that awful Directed Electronics add-on HD Radio tuner in my car (before it burned-up) it had RDS on the non-HD stations and a narrow FM filter, so it was good for ID'ing FM stations. The AM tuner would simply LOWER the AGC down to nothing when the signal was bad, so instead of actually hearing the station, their idiot chip programmers lowered the level of the AM signal to where you couldn't hear it instead of using noise blankers - the only thing they did right on the AM band was they had an "AM HD Filter" so when you tuned in 580, you could hear it as it somehow filtered out the trash from 560 - so many engineers would say "I don't hear any trash on 580" because they were listening on an HD radio, not on a standard analog radio with decent AM bandwidth (aka the infamous Delco UX-1 or Chrysler RAZ with 7.5KHz AM bandwidths that heard the HD buzzsaws).
So, yes, the HD radios with RDS were good until the non-lead solder parts failed from the extreme heat of the tuner box in 2 years, and provided for some easy station ID's.

from my QTH I have never decoded a Grand Rapids TV station. I can regularly get WLNS and WILX, but no other Lansing stations, even during tropo enhancement. I have had a couple of analog TV channels from London ON area before.

FM to Grand Rapids is pretty easy, they are in here on a daily basis even during winter months. WBCT is a powerhouse, and some of the others in Grand Rapids come pretty close. FMs from London are a little tougher to come by.

Neither of these areas would make a difference in the Detroit area during an Es opening because they are too close. Definitely tropospheric scatter/ducting though.

Had KKBS 92.7 Guymon, OK @ 1033mi earlier, also subdecodes on KOTA 2 Via Es

MY 0.02 :)
