Re: Tropospheric ducting on Saturday 2/3
Wow. I can't believe I was getting a translator from Holly in that area, and enough to fight with a Lansing station that generally comes in reliably in my area. The "Holly" translator is actually across US24 from Dixieland Flea Market on the Waterford/Pontiac border, NW of downtown Pontiac (last I ...

Re: Tropospheric ducting on Saturday 2/3
I had some notable catches yesterday: 105.9 WKHQ Charlevoix, MI, 238mi (cochannel to WDMK locally) 93.1 WIBC Indianapolis, IN, 189mi (cochannel to WUFL locally, found while pointing NW in WUFL null?) 106.7 WSRT Gaylord, MI, 225mi (cochannel to WLLZ locally) 105.1 WGFM Cheboygan, MI, 233mi (cochannel...

Re: WJBK signal strength?
The directional pattern may be out of whack, whereby some azimuths may be receiving less signal than they should. Glad to hear areas to the south are still able to pick up a reliable signal. WJBK is actually the most reliable of the Detroit stations here - I'm guessing it's because it's good ol' VH...

Re: Better sensitivity/selectivity from new RF DSP Chip
Honestly, the most selective, sensitive chips out right now are used in HD receivers.

Re: WJBK signal strength?
Still perfectly fine here in Petersburg - I can still point my outdoor antenna in almost any direction and still get a watchable signal.

Re: WJBK signal strength?
not to gloat, but here in petersburg i've had WJBK in solid for weeks, pointing in almost any direction. thought it was kind of odd actually (i've only lived here since july)

Re: Sirius/XM audio quality
Came here to throw in my 0.02 back in the day when both were fresh, I had sirius AND XM. XM always had better audio quality, and it seems as though the OEMs have figured out a way to smooth out the crappy audio a bit using factory audio systems. I used to locate and map the XM and Sirius ground repe...

Ohio statewide EAS test
Was just randomly listening to WRKZ Columbus from my home in Petersburg. Noted that an Ohio statewide EAS test broke in. Decided to spin the dial and see who decided to participate today lol All of the Toledo FMs broke except WRVF and WIOT. Don't think WPFX or WJUC did either. Definitely did: WVKS, ...

Re: Sources of Local Interference Affecting VHF Reception
Interesting data. I though this might be more about cheap LED lights and CF bulbs! (those seem to be big issues in radio RF reception!). I'm surprised to see the LTE filter make any difference at all on a VHF signal. I could understand seeing differences in UHF, but there's a lot of bw between the ...

Re: Terk Amplified Indoor FM Antenna
You're likely seeing a lot of QRM on top of a weak signal, given that it's in the basement. You won't really 'clean up' a signal very well, no matter how much you amplify the signal. The signal to noise ratio will remain the same, the receiver will just be a bit more "confused" and signals that were...

Re: Sources of Local Interference Affecting VHF Reception
Great data. I've always found that ethernet is generally noisy - especially long runs of it. If there are two active devices on each end of an ethernet cable, you can bet it's leaking all kinds of noise from ~20mhz-~800mhz. Now that I have decent enough coax and an antenna located far (and a few she...

Re: Could 98.7 flip to classic country as a flanker for WYCD?
98.7 could use some playlist tweaking, but it fills a small part of whatever void 89x from 1995 left behind honestly. Just sucks that it's essentially a robot, and even sounds like it right down to the tinney sounding processing they use.

Re: Detroit Airplay of Alice Cooper's New Album
WRIF does not play any new rock that the overlords don't tell them to. That's somewhere close to the majority of new rock out there. Does it suck? yeah. There's simply not an audience. Makes me miss K-Rock and Buzz 106.5. Hey I'd bet WQON Grayling has played it. Whoever programs that station does a ...
