Re: RIP Bill Walton

RIP Bill Walton I'm wondering if the new rules allowing college athletes to be paid will make for future NCAA basketball dynasties such as John Wooden's UCLA. Will there be the equivalent of a "salary cap"? That's very possible. Connecticut has a very good start, with two straight championships. Th...

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024

All of those high-MPH pitches might be making Paul Skenes a candidate for Tommy John surgery. By the end of the 2023 MLB season, 31 of the 64 hardest throwing pitchers based on Statcast numbers had already had Tommy John surgery. Injury analyst Joe Roegele, who tracks Tommy John surgeries, told USA ...

Re: WDIV trying to fan some racial flames??

I agree with the OP. It shouldn’t be forgotten or dismissed, but let’s not keep fanning flames of a fire that seemingly is settling down in our city It seems to be a personal mission of Paula Tutman—something she wanted to do before taking Channel 4's buyout. And on a final note, I think it is so i...

Re: Ty Cobb bumped from 1st place

The problem will be commensurate with comparing apples and oranges. Though individual player talent among star Negro League players are likely on a par with MLB, there'll always be the question of overall player talent and level of competition. It probably won't stop here. People are starting to ta...

Re: RIP Bill Walton

His two 30-0 seasons with UCLA in the early 1970's were incredible. In 1971-1972, they won by an average of about 30 points a game. In 1972-1973, in the championship game, Walton hit 21 of 22 shots and scored 44 points. Many of the players on those teams were freshmen in 1970-1971, when freshmen wer...

Re: Ron Cameron

Pat Caputo was talking last night about the Canadian Memorial Cup, which is going on right now—how big a deal it is in Canada, how many NHL players have competed for it, and so on. It brought back memories of Ron's biggest moment in his formative years as a sports groupie—carrying the Memorial Cup o...

Re: Ron Cameron

Watching the Tigers on my PC on the Roku Channel right now. If Ron had been doing an 11 a.m. Sunday show, it would have been fun to hear him and Martin try to find the channel on their studio computer, if that was possible. If they couldn't find it, the callers could give the play by play. I’m imag...

Nah, I'm not ready to say goodbye.

Another parody proof song, especially the lines:

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024

The Tigers were on Roku yesterday, with Dan Dickerson and Joe Carter announcing. Dan and Joe talked about Joe's historic three-run homer to end the 1993 World Series. So naturally, the Tigers win on a game-ending three-run homer.

Tigers are RED hot. Time for an off day....on a holiday. Why?
Maybe to wash those ugly Lucky Charm uniforms that they have been wearing since Friday night. :)

Re: Detroit Tigers 2024

The Tigers finally got Reese Olsen his first win today. Six innings, only gave up three hits. He's now 1-5 and sixth in the majors in ERA. The five pitchers ahead of him have a collective record of 28-3. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/player/_/view/pitching Interestingly, today the Tigers face Toro...
