Re: To HGR1290 About WHGR 1290 Night Pattern
I swear that they used to leave it on night pattern during the day, because it would die just south of Harrison during the day. Granted GC is pretty pathetic in that area....but I always was surprised that I could hear 1490 in Midland "up north" but could never hear WHGR down south. Those parameters...

Re: Worst-sounding radio stations of all-time.
Going back a decade or five, WCRM AM and FM Clare, in the mid 70s. The FM Side sounded like it was taken off the AM modulation monitor. Quite bright, quite gritty, quite difficult to listen to. This may have been just after they came on the air. WCEN-FM Mt Pleasant, back when it was on Bluegrass Rd ...

Re: The Larger Topic Of Electrical Noise Suppression
At my location, I am fortunate enough to have a large back yard. I live about 5 miles from 50kW WFTD-Marietta GA. I have a single turn untuned loop antenna located 200 feet behind my house, and over 500 feet from any other house. The loop feeds a Wellbrook 30db amp., which drives the 200 feet of coa...

Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??
I dont remember that, but I dont recall to much time spent on 1270. WVOY was pretty weak by the time it made it to Roscommon County. Regarding 1290: Yes, the NIF had to be "up there" for WHGR. WHGR, reportedly, was a frequent visitor via the polar path. Makes sense since WHGR was at best a + or - 5 ...

Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??
I am still here, in addition to the "other site". Houghton Lake, has a public access area, but not a state park. There is a "state park store" at South Higgins Lake State park. It is a "log cabin" looking place, if I recall. WHGR had the three AM towers on M55, where the Walmart etc is, now. The WHG...

Re: 40 years ago in 1979
Ahh yes, that fine WWWS audio, sounded almost like it was double pre-emphasized, it was really bright and very thin sounding.
WSBM, I thought that was the TM 'Stereo Rock" format(Tapes) before they became WIOG, running beautiful music in the mid 70s.

Re: am 1250 Saginaw
WGRY on 1590 was even worse than the present 1230 facility.... WCRM-990, later WRNN had a two tower DA south of Clare. And yes pulled the east side in to avoid the Canadian border. I always remember WHGR 1290 running into the noise around Harrison, in those sand hills. As a kid it amazed me that 5kW...
